»» PERSONALITY:
Shaw is an interesting assortment of personalities. He’s extremely introverted, and so doesn’t enjoy large amounts of time around other people (there are a few people exempt from this, including his wife and younger sister). Instead, he spends the majority of his time alone – whether that is doing something productive like working, or something to just pass the time like people-watching or reading or playing video games. (Yeah, he’s still a game nerd.) Yet he is also very boisterous and even rowdy when he is enjoying himself – if you can get him surrounded by a group of friends, especially if they’re alcohol involved, then he can be the life of the party (for a limited amount of time).
He enjoys a bit of sarcastic humornow and then, particularly at other peoples’ expense (but only in play, really), and has a tendency to say things he doesn’t really mean just to get reactions out of people. Basically: people fascinate him (hence the people-watching), and he loves seeing how they work. This gets him in trouble from time to time, but he can definitely hold his own – and he has the spitfire temper of shifters and Irishmen alike to spur him on. Thankfully, after a fight has run its course, he doesn’t tend to hold a grudge – and he might even buy his opponent a drink. (That is, unless you seriously wronged him or someone he cares about – he does hold grudges about stuff like that.)

»» RP SAMPLE:
Liz’s face twisted into a grimace as Rob continued on about giving the things names. “Well if you have any suggestions, I’m all ears. Hell, you can choose them all on your own if you want. They can even take your last name. You’re the one all ready for parenthood.” There was a touch of bitterness leaking back into her voice, but Liz swallowed it back down. Rob already knew how unwilling she was to do any of this, so he could take care of it himself. That was her opinion.
Except, of course, that Liz did have two names she wanted included in the twin’s names somewhere – but she wasn’t about to bring one of those up to Rob. He would hate the idea as soon as it left her lips, and she didn’t want to deal with that right now. They didn’t need to fight about her brother when they were trying to… fix things. Even if their “fixing” things was to temporarily pretend like she had never left – besides Rob’s questions.
“No, I haven’t seen a doctor. I don’t think that’s exactly a good idea – you know, the first thing they’ll notice is that neither I nor my twins have heartbeats.” She raised an eyebrow at him as if she expected better of him. “Unless you can find some ‘vampire doctor,’ I think I’m on my own for this.” And that was part of the terrifying aspect of this whole thing. Not only had Liz been blindsided by the fact that she had motherhood to face, she had never even considered the mere possibility that vampires could get pregnant and have children. She had never heard about anyone else going through this, and even if she had, she likely wouldn’t have believed it. Her body was dead for all intents and purposes, right?
Apparently not.
Liz rolled her eyes as Rob swore that she would enjoy being a wife at some point in her life. Yeah, right. The woman who didn’t believe in love was going to actually get married – and to this overly-romantic dolt. She couldn’t see it happening. No matter what these kids changed, no matter how long they stayed together, she simply didn’t see “marriage” working out like Rob apparently thought it would.
She cut him off from pursuing his little “threat” by pulling him down for a long, soft kiss. God, she had missed him.
When their lips finally separated, she leaned the side of her head against his chest, her eyes closing as he tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear. A soft, content sound slipped from her throat, and her lips quirked into a grin when Rob mumbled out a “thanks.” Although, the next comment he made pulled a small verbal answer from him. “Ha ha,” she quipped with a roll of her eyes. But she snuggled into him regardless, twisting on the couch so she lay on her side with her back pressed against his chest. It was a slightly better fit on the small couch, and his arms went over her easily, fingers entwining her own.
Content, safe, happy. She hadn’t felt like this since before Charlie…
Her eyes blinked open as Rob broke the somewhat-silence. Liz had effectively tuned out the television as soon as Rob had made his entrance, so it took her a brief moment to register what he was saying. Then she made a face that he couldn’t quite see from his angle. “It’s not garbage; it’s fashion,” she huffed. “And I’m going to be watching a lot of it until I can fit into those clothes again myself.”

»» HISTORY:
Shaw was born into an extremely close-knit group of shifters in Ireland, and into a rather large family of his own. They were an extremely secretive pack of wolves – after so long of Irish history where wolves were hunted from the land – but they had certainly survived and thrived, and although they spread themselves out between many smaller towns and cities in the country, the pack got together quite often, and Shaw knew from a very young age what kind of life he was going to lead when he grew up.
He was the third child of the imprinted couple Daniel and Sybil. Sybil wasn’t a shifter, but after being pulled into the lifestyle by her tie to Daniel, she embraced it heartily, as did many other of the “pack mothers.” They took turns caring for the children, moving them around and scheduling play dates, so although Shaw was only related by blood to Alana and Ernest (three and two years his seniors, respectively), he really had far more siblings in those pivotal first few years of his life. So when little Teagan was born shortly before his own fifth birthday (she had actually been due on the same date but was premature), and the twins Colin and Thomas followed roughly a year later, his life hardly changed with the growth of his family. Shaw went on being a rather carefree, happy child – the bane of the older siblings because he saw nothing better than trying to tag along with everything they did, and quite troublesome from time to time, but no more than any other children.
Unfortunately, mere months had passed after the birth of the twins before that happy little lifestyle crashed and burned. Rather literally with the “burning” part. You see, Daniel was a factory worker – he had actually been close to a management position – and one tragic morning the place burned down, many employees trapped inside. Local law enforcement and firefighters cited arson as the cause, but were never able to find the person (or people) responsible. Sybil, predictably, took her husband’s and imprint’s death horribly.
In fact, in the midst of her immense grief and mourning, she blamed a fellow pack member for the deaths. She claimed that he had been jealous of Daniel’s higher ranking in the pack, and that he was too much of a coward to challenge him for it face to face. Instead, he had to kill to steal the power away from him – however miniscule the difference was between them. It certainly didn’t help her mental state that the man she accused actually did receive Daniel’s place in the pack… But he was, however, innocent.
The commotion and outrage that Sybil’s claims created in the pack caused a rift between many of them – but in the end, most of the pack sided against her. There were sympathizers, sure. They had known people to lose their imprints before and knew it was never pretty. But the man’s innocence and the increased aggression of Sybil’s attacks on him (regardless of her children – she wasn’t exactly fit to care for them in the months following Daniel’s death, and they spent much time with other pack families), led to the pack basically excommunicating her. They couldn’t send her away, but they cut all ties with her – even her friends among the pack were forced to shut her out of their lives. In the end, she picked up her family and moved to America – desperate for the fresh start and wanting to get as far away from those hypocrites (in her mind) as she possibly could.
Suffice to say, by the time the boy was seven years old, his whole life had been turned upside down. Thankfully, as Sybil worked to make a life for herself and her five children, Irish in America had finally started gaining a reasonable place in society, and after the family learned the language (haltingly for a while – although it was easier for the smaller children), they managed to find themselves a rather pleasant life. It was almost nothing like the close-knit country life they had been leading up until then, and their mother had retreated into herself whenever she wasn’t working the days away, but they managed.
Shaw had a particularly hard time at first in school, so it’s not really surprising that he soon took a strong dislike to it. He still went, because he knew better than to fight with his mother about it, and she never believed him when he faked being sick, but he ended up being one of those kids that does the absolute bare minimum to pass. He did whatever he had to to continue going unnoticed. Unfortunately, as he went through elementary and into middle school, there was always at least one boy or another who couldn’t help picking on the easy target. Ernest was always incredibly protective of his younger siblings (which canceled out Alana’s growing disinterest in her own family – she preferred hanging out with friends whenever she could, and hit her rebellious streak hard) but that ended up only alienating Shaw, who claimed he could handle himself perfectly fine. And he did… but also got himself into more than one series of detentions for fighting in school.
As high school rolled around, things finally started to really settle down for Shaw. His mother had, in fact, remarried just as he made the transition – and while Shaw didn’t care very much for Erik, the man didn’t really interfere too much with Sybil’s (somewhat lax) parenting techniques. So Shaw paid him little mind. Unfortunately, Sybil had also decided to keep her past and her history with the supernatural from her new, human, husband – so when Alana and Ernest both shifted (Alana was late in shifting and her brother was early), she swore them both to secrecy. It didn’t go over too well with her oldest daughter, and as soon as Alana had graduated, she left home without a word – and she hasn’t contacted any of her family since. Ernest was a bit better at handling the situation, but seeing as he had actually enjoyed schooling unlike Shaw, he went off to pursue a college education. He apparently wanted a future as a lawyer – something Shaw couldn’t quite wrap his head around.
Shaw was rather introverted and spent a lot of his time stowed away in the library (not studying, of course, because he managed a B average without much effort) or out running the track at his school, which gave anyone who wanted to give him a hard time little chance. However, there were a few people he would spend time with – usually during classes or lunch (he didn’t have much of a social life outside of school hours; he went home and watched his younger siblings, and, well, goofed off and played video games), and one of those few people was Calliope – or, Calli. If Shaw was ever absolutely honest about it, Calli was his first real crush. His more loner-ish tendencies had kept him out of that sort of phase through his middle school years, but when he ended up stuck in the back of an English class with the blonde, he quickly realized he liked her. (It might have helped that they had a very similar sense of humor – even if it was one that their teacher didn’t entirely appreciate.)
It wasn’t really until their junior year that the couple finally reached the dating point – and that was helped along by an interfering younger sister (Teagan couldn’t help playing matchmaker; she was in her super romantic phase). And… it went surprisingly well. Of course, they weren’t some fairytale romance, and they got in their fights (a couple of them caused by far more physical fights Shaw got into his senior year), but they were one of those rare highschool couples that actually worked. Even after an incredibly strained point in their relationship when Shaw finally went through the transition that all shifters do before their first shift – and the subsequent time he took after it to get used to everything, and to make sure he kept it under the radar from his mother – but he eventually explained everything to Calli (against Ernest’s advice but supported by little Teagan), and proved to her that it was all true. Thankfully, she couldn’t exactly call him insane after she actually met the bear-sized wolf he could turn into.
Shaw had no real plans after he graduate highschool, but he had managed to get himself a rather simple job as a mailman (although he entered the field by working in the store rooms and delivery areas), and he proposed to Calli. Despite being young, he had to admit that he was head over heels in love with her – and the shifter with no real future ahead of him wanted her in it, whatever may come. Thankfully, she said yes. The parents on both sides of the union weren’t too happy with the young marriage, so they eloped, and Shaw used what money he had to get them a small apartment.
Calli had far better plans for her future – while Shaw was content simply working and getting by – so he supported her while she went through the trials and tribulations of higher education, and when she finally completed her schooling and got a job offer way up in Washington, the shifter didn’t hesitate to pick up and move with her. Mail service jobs were everywhere – and he could always get himself into a different job field if one caught his eye.
Eleven years after their marriage, the couple is still happy and content. Unfortunately, things never really seem to last, do they?
