"merrily we fall – out of line, out of line"
name; Spiderpoppy
gender; She-cat
age; 14 moons
clan; ShadowClan
rank; Warrior
quick appearance; Dark black-and-gray ticked tabby she-cat with pale yellow eyes.
personality;Spiderpoppy is a quiet, reserved she-cat, gifted with a soft voice and a stealth and grace to rival any cat in all of the clans. She is known for being a peacekeeper, and for spending far more of her time with cats younger than herself – her elders and superiors intimidate her. Surprisingly, it isn’t their power or strength that makes Spiderpoppy withdraw into herself in their presence, but merely the absolute respect she feels for most of them. Whatever she may think of another cat, it is rare for her to speak out against them in their presence; her mother swore that if she would learn anything it would be to follow orders, and the older she-cat was right.
Of course, Spiderpoppy does have a backbone and some spunk of her own – could she truly be a ShadowClan cat without it? She just prefers to keep up pleasant appearances, but has found that gossip is a wonderful outlet for any of her discontent. She simply has to make sure she doesn’t slip up around the wrong cat – StarClan only knows how anyone would react if a sarcastic word ever left her mouth!
She opens up far more around those close to her age – cats she was an apprentice alongside, or current apprentices and kits. It’s as if she fits right in with their youth and innocence, and there is little she could do around them that would embarrass her (even if it’s not exactly warrior-like). Spiderpoppy has heard one or two cats mention that she would make a perfect queen, but she’s never really cared for the idea of motherhood (after all, she doesn’t share her mother’s lack of belief in love, and would never consider kits without a proper mate – alright, maybe she’s a bit of a secret romantic as well, but good luck digging that side out of her).
If Spiderpoppy has any major vices (at least, the more obvious ones), they would have to be her inability to forgive and her bleeding heart. She can never turn away a cat in need, regardless of their clan, and this has even caused her to question her ancestors or the Warrior Code from time to time – it should never be against the rules to help someone, even if she is giving away ShadowClan prey to do so. However, she’s very observant of the cats around her, and any cat that crosses her (though she usually brushes off antagonistic remarks) will earn from her the very same icy treatment that her mother is famous for. She will ignore the offender to the point of disobeying orders to patrol with them, sometimes accompanied by cold glares across the camp, and if she absolutely must be around them, she will not say a word. It’s only really in their mutual unbending dislike for certain members of the feline population that they are obviously mother and daughter. Spiderpoppy’s just a bit more… passive-aggressive.
family; Yarrowfrost, mother; Badgerclaw, father; Foxpaw, half-brother; Ospreypaw, half-brother
reason for name; “Spider-” – her dark coat and long limbs; “-poppy” – her surprising feminine/motherly side
history;Yarrowfrost is a she-cat with a knack for getting under toms’ skins, and she uses full advantage of that ability. Whatever her motivation, the warrior has decided to strive for the “perfect” offspring, and the first cat she dragged into her plans was Badgerclaw, despite his head-over-heels adoration for his mate Honeythistle. As she argued, everyone needs a little fun on the side, right? In the end, she convinced him, and she gave birth to lone little Spiderkit – whose father was never announced to the clan. She herself has no idea who the tom is, but over the course of her moons, Spiderpoppy has come to accept that fact and care little about it. She had her mother growing up, though the bitter she-cat wasted little time cuddling and coddling her.
Spiderkit was a cat that grew up quickly, with little delusions about the world around her. She was very matter-of-fact from the youngest age her mother could convince her to be – at least around Yarrowfrost. The queen had little patience for the six long moons they spent in the nursery, but there were small moments where a mother’s care came through. Spiderkit simply spent the rest of the time in the elder’s den or pestering the apprentices. Even when Yarrowfrost warned her of the harsh reality that lay ahead of her, she was an ambitious young kit that couldn’t wait to become a warrior.
She excelled in her apprentice-ship. Given a blunt no-nonsense tom as her mentor, the newly-dubbed Spiderpaw spent little wasted time dawdling around the camp. They fought, they hunted, they ran the territory back and forth until she swore her paws would fall off if she stopped moving for a second, her momentum the only thing that kept her going. She did not have the best relationship with her mentor, though, as the tom decided he didn’t like her mother and that “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” So, little Spiderpaw pushed herself to prove him wrong, and never spoke to him outside of their training sessions. He existed to teach her the skills of a warrior, and that was all.
Quickly, she bested him at hunting – there was even a case that he begrudges her to this day for, where he was supposed to be following her for an assessment and she spent half the day trailing him while he wandered helplessly looking for where her scent trail had disappeared to. It certainly didn’t help his pride when she caught quite the haul of prey, as well. But, for the sake of her implied respect for the warrior, she never spoke of it.
Eventually the two of them found an uneasy balance. They never truly liked each other, but Spiderpoppy knows that she is the warrior she is today because he mentor pushed her, and after her warrior ceremony, she even thanked him for his training. After that day, they kept to their own social circles.
It hasn’t been long since Spiderpoppy was granted her warrior name, but in her eyes she is certainly showing herself as a bright young warrior of ShadowClan, and she is prepared for whatever may come her way.
other; Alright, the only other character I am allowing myself to make is Yarrowfrost, and she’s not coming for a while >.> xD
roleplay sample; See Minnowpaw <3
