Warrior
EXTENDED APPEARANCE:
PERSONALITY:Emberblaze is a small, thin, fragile cat by all accounts. He has long legs and a long tail – built with the wiry muscles of a runner more than anything. He is by far the underdog in battles and almost anything that requires real muscle, but no cat can say he isn’t fast. However, it is his pelt that really draws the eye; for his short, coarse pelt is a myriad of pale ginger and smoky black. For the most part, his coat is black, and the ginger is a faint dappling of color – the only large patch of the color is high up on his chest, throat, and chin. There is some vague suggestion of tabby lines in this ginger patch, but the color is too pale for anyone to really see a difference in the pattern. His eyes are also pale, but rimmed with mostly black fur, the green stands out almost as much as the blaze of color on his chest.
(For my own OOC reference, Emberblaze is in fact a chimera – hence the tortoiseshell – and not an XXY cat. So he would be fertile, and likely pass on the black gene, if it ever came to that *cough* His sickness is a separate issue.)
FAMILY:Emberblaze is a solitary cat with a severe inferiority complex. He isn’t very good at anything he thinks is “valuable” to the clan, and has reached the point where he doesn’t really try anymore. He spends more time sulking off by himself and nursing jealousy for the more skilled warriors. After all, it’s not his fault he’s not very successful – but it’s also not surprising that the cats that excel are “more popular.”
Even among his more friendly and open clan mates, Emberblaze keeps conversations short and interactions as a whole… simple. He uses as little syllables as possible, and more often than not, he’s silent. Of course, if there was a cat around willing to endure long silent days with him, he wouldn’t mind their company nearly as much. It’s the cats that think they need to “get him out of his shell” or some other nonsense like that that he avoids like the plague.
Emberblaze has a strong set of ideals about what clan life is supposed to be, and those do not add up to what WildClan is – at least in his book. So as he’s heard whispers and snippets about separating the clans once again, he’s started thinking. After all, sometimes all you need to make things better is a little change – and if it all worked out, maybe he’d end up separated from all of the cats he can’t stand.
Trout-tail, mother, deceased; Spiderpelt, father, 57 moons, warrior;
Kestrelkit, sister, deceased; Waspkit, brother, deceased; Robinstorm, sister, 24 moons, warrior.
HISTORY:
CBOX NAME:Emberblaze’s beginnings weren’t very promising. He was one kit among four in a litter that the medicine cat said was not likely to survive. There was no real reason he could give the small family, but when little Waspkit died in the night after the kitting, they couldn’t exactly deny the truth of it. Emberkit himself was a surprise – a tortoiseshell tom is not something seen often in a litter, and seldom did they survive much longer. The only “strong” kitten out of the litter was Robinkit, so she was the only one her parents expected to survive through the next few moons.
However, the sickly, mewly Emberkit surprised everyone when he pulled through to his sixth moon. His other sister, Kestrelkit, didn’t survive past her first moon, and Emberkit didn’t get along too well with Robinkit, but their parents doted on them both well past when the left the nursery.
Robinpaw was a promising young apprentice – and a cocky one at that. In her opinion, she was automatically greater than most because she survived where her siblings hadn’t. (And Emberpaw’s example didn’t broke much argument against her superiority.) You see, Emberpaw didn’t entirely like the idea of being a warrior – and he didn’t like his mentor either. Wasptail was a strict tom who expected a lot from his sickly apprentice, and wasn’t above punishing Emberpaw when he didn’t perform up to par. It didn’t help that Emberpaw simple didn’t seem destined to be very good at anything. Unfortunately for Emberpaw, it seemed the general consensus (at least among the cats involved) that such hard training was the only way he would ever make it to his warrior name.
Of course, after long, harsh moons with Wasptail, Emberpaw was at least passable as a warrior. His greatest skill was in hunting – and he wasn’t even particularly good at that. He was much better at weaseling his way out of duties given to him around camp, and doing the bare minimum during his training sessions with Wasptail. Robinpaw, on the other hand, excelled enough in her training that she was given her warrior name early – and Robinstorm’s gloating did little to improve Emberpaw’s opinion on the subject.
The young tom finally received his warrior name on his twentieth moon – after a particularly large skirmish with a group of nearby rogues. His mother, Trout-tail, was seriously injured in the fight. She would have likely survived (and she did at least to see the newly-named Emberblaze back from his vigil), if her injury had not become badly infected. She grew extremely sick extremely quickly, and passed on to StarClan before the next moon was up.
The last four moons of Emberblaze’s life haven’t been much different from his training – except now he doesn’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn every morning and look Wasptail in the face for their training sessions. He has taken great advantage of that, and only does the bare minimum amount of work required of him. The rest of his time is spent, well, being grumpy and abrasive.
